Holiday apron
I made this holiday apron to use…you know…during the holidays. I followed the same design as I used for my Spanish teacher and her friend. I like it a lot. Oh look, lucky you - a shot of my cat AND my apron. Cute!

Homecoming dresses
I was comissioned this month to make two homecoming dresses.  Unfortunately, there was a spilling accident involving the first one, which was so cute, and she did not get to wear it - but she’s going to get the stain out and wear it for ring dance. So I guess I’ll save the picture till then. And the second one was made for Sam; it’s sparkly blue with red trim. I’m...

Halloween Costume 2010
I wore my Audrey Hepburn costume today! I used my Holly Golightly dress of course…complete with long satin gloves ($3 at H&M!), black stockings and pumps, a crystal hair clip + bun (trust me, it is no simple feat to arrange my short, curly hair into a bun!), pearl earrings, extravagant pearl necklace, and a long cigarette holder which I borrowed from a friend! Not everyone knew...

Making a second retro/repro Butterick!
This dress was one of my favorites to wear this summer: So, I have decided to make one for winter in a darker color. Namely, this fabric: Can’t wait!

"Before" shots of homecoming dress
So, right before school started I was at Goodwill and bought the PERFECT homecoming dress! I’m guessing it’s an early 60s dress (I am not good at telling though so don’t hold me to it!) and it’s super cute. It is in need of a repair or two (for example the zipper doesn’t zip all the way) and I’m going to dye it an awesome color (TBD!) but here are the...

Gold Award - Morocco
Last Monday I covered Morocco at my Gold Award children’s program. It was pretty fun. It was held in the town hall because the library was closed. My friend Meryem came to help. She is from Morocco so she told the kids a lot of interesting stuff. Next week is the last week of my program - Australia!

Vogue...
So, I went on Vogue Pattern’s website today and saw This, staring me in the face: A holy terror, no? I mean, the lines are nice, and it would certainly be good in a solid color or…something other than puke green plaid. I mean, really? Really now, Vogue? Looking at the individual pieces isn’t so bad either. I mean, still not the best fabric choice but not as horrendous. ...

How to be Holly Golightly for Halloween
For Halloween I am going to be Holly Golightly from Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Perfect costume for me - Breakfast at Tiffany’s is pretty much THE fashion film. Anyway, obviously I am using my Holly Golightly dress, modeled by Kathryn in this picture: but really, any little black dress would work well. Especially if it has a bateau neckline and a slim skirt. Next, of course, the...

Costume making!
A few friends and I got together to make some costumes. A bunch of them are being crayons for Halloween (I would have except I had already picked a costume when they suggested it). But I decided to help anyhow.  First we had some fun: Then we got to work. We cut out a TON of Crayola logos and stripes: And we cut and sewed: And after they dress up at school…I will post...

Finally! My self-drafted dress.
This is the first dress I ever drafted entirely by myself.  It’s meant to be similar in design to this Modcloth dress, except more Autumn-y and with cool pockets: Here’s a closeup shot: It has large, contrasting inset pockets, two buttons at the center front of the waistband, and a button at the center front of the false neckline up top. I really like it, and it’s one of...

Halloween Decor part 2: Pumpkins
I went pumpking picking over the long weekend with my friends Kathryn and Annie. The local farm has a “haunted hayride” which is really cool. There’s a bunch of cute decorations set up: Plus there’s a cute dog: Along the way, they stop the hayride so you can feed the cows some hay - one of the cows put his face right next to me and I jumped about 3 feet into the...

Fried Deliciousness
So, my friend Jess has a deep fryer…hence, we had a fry-random-foods day. Mmmmm-mmm good. First we fried some oreos… Twinkies…which are exponentially more delicious fried than plain: And milanos (no pictures)…and pickles: “It’s just like pickles! Only…fried!” Deep fryer….HARDCORE! Then, we watched Moulin Rouge. A good day was...

Halloween Decor part 1
So. I made a cool dining room Halloween setup: How to achieve the tablecloth: 1. Find a ratty old lace tablecloth. Mine was in the attic and had holes and stains on it. You can probably find one at a secondhand shop for cheap. 2. Hang it on a clothesline (you’ll definitely want to do this outdoors). 3. Get some paint or other pigment in the desired color and use a paintbrush to...

Hermione the Cat
So, apparently when my dad was donating some cat food to the local animal shelter, he saw a kitty and felt bad that she had no home…and you can guess what happened next. At first I was upset that he was getting a cat already when Harry just died but I’ve changed my mind because she is just such a nice kitty! She’s so different from Harry it’s not like she’s supposed...

Additional swing dress!
So, I have made another swing dress in a totally new color - black with white polka dots! Now I’ve used every polka dot in that series that fabric.com has to offer. Except the multi. But I think that would stand out too much, so the next dresses I make will be in colors we already have!
