Models in my clothes.
I had some lovely friends model for me and the resulting pictures are, in my opinion, very aesthetically appealing.

Yellow dress: Complete!
The dress I mentioned here is now done! It looks very cute, especially compared to the rather frumpy stying on the pattern envelope:
Here it is, cinched with a rainbow belt:
I made covered buttons using Gertie’s tutorial -
Aaaaaaand…..that’s that!

Sale at Butterick/Vogue/McCall's?
SALE! Which means I will be finally be snagging the pattern I’ve been eyeing, Butterick B5277.
Especially if I can get my mommy to buy it for me. Although what I really want her to buy me are most of the Colette Pattern collection.
Colette’s Ceylon dress is a good one, but I just have to show you the version that Burdastyle member Chelsea888 created:
How fabulous is that?

Half moon nails
I want this on my nails right about now:
A half-moon manicure. These originated on 40s pinups and now can be seen on the likes of Dita Von Teese.
By the way, remember the yellow fabric and shirt dress pattern from this post? I’m almost done with it (finally!)

Little Black Dress
Sometimes called the LBD for short, the Little Black Dress came about when Coco Chanel published a picture of a woman in a short black dress, in 1926. Prior to that, black was seen as inappropriate to wear in public unless one was mourning.
My favorite little black dress would definitely be the one from Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Lucky for me, the Selfish Seamstress has provided a (free)...

Aprons = Awesome!
I just finished making an apron for my Spanish teacher.
Every time I make an apron it makes me want even more aprons!
Look at this adorable one from seller Boojiboo Etsy:
And this from Sew Liberated:
I love Simplicity 4479 as well -
As well as Advance 5288 -
This one from Etsy seller Sassy Apron is adorbs!
So, basically, an excess of aprons may be in my future. :-)

Vintage foundation garments
Foundation garments, by the way, means underwear. Back in the day, people wore a lot more underwear than now.
Typically, in the 1950s women would wear a longline bra (bullet bra, if they were very fashionable) which would give them the “Sweater Girl” look -
Now, for the oh-so-admired hourglass figure, they’d need a girdle.
As in the picture, they laced up at the back...

"Geez, Banana, shut your freakin' gob, okay?"
The title is a line from one of my fave movies, Juno. I just watched it today with friends. Anyway, today is a link day. Links of interest, proceed!
These red velvet pancakes look delicious. My friend Billy and I plan to cook them while wearing the aprons we made in clothing construction.
I ordered the book “A Guide To Elegance”, written by Genevieve Antoine Dariaux in the early...

Handmade Prom
Finally! Prom photos!
Prom was fun. Even though the music they played was crappy, it was way fun. Post prom was even better, of course. My school throws a wicked post prom. This year it was “Around The World” themed.
HERE IS THE DRESS!
Back view:
My date and I:
(Notice my awesome Converse sneakers!)
I’m on a zipline.
And of course the lovely boutonnière I made...

My school's prom is TOMORROW.
So, I may be getting a little bit overexcited about prom BUT I am going tomorrow so I have a right to!
The theme this year is New York, New York (waaaaaay better than last year’s theme - “A Moment Like This”.)
I did the final fitting of my dress today and decided to add a sash to the waist.
I got together all the things I need and finalized plans with my date.
And tomorrow,...

More fashion show pictures
Only some of these are things I made, but here are more fashion show photos!
Jamie modeling an apron
Elizabeth in a donated Jessical McClintock prom gown.
Kathryn in my circle skirt. I must say, I was quite astounded by the intensity of Kathryn’s model walk!
Another shot of Emily in my high waisted skirt. The pattern on it is little peacocks.
Jamie in a donated red evening...

Don't say my name...Alejandro.
Here is a lovely picture of the designer of one of our Lady Gaga costumes.
On Billy is the headpiece, and on his mannequin, the bustier and the skirt. All made of Capri Sun pouches! In case you didn’t catch it, look again: Billy is feeling up his mannequin.

Fashion Show Runway Shots!
Here it is! The fashion show was awesome. Especially the Gaga-off (which I unfortunately did not get pictures of…but if I see any around Facebook I’ll be sure to keep you posted!) Mind you, this is the dress rehearsal (I had to spend the actual event zipping zippers and buttoning buttons), so the seats do not have occupants.
The darkened stage, pre-show.

Fashion Show preview!
The fashion show is tomorrow, and I am excited about it! Rehearsal went all right today and I got a bunch of shots. As a preview to the actual show here are a few of the fashion shots I took of some of my models (action shots are coming TOMORROW!).
Cake.
I want to make a cake. I REAAAALLY want to make a cake.
I have this book:
I got it as a gift from my ex’s mother. She is really very nice to me, even still. Anyway back on subject:
CAKE MAKING!
I’ve got a really nice cake plate. It’s clear glass with little painted flowers on the edges.
What made me want to make a cake? Perhaps the fact that cake is pretty, perhaps the...

I am not normal..am I.
In either circle - artists and normal people.
On the one hand, I own a flute, two saxophones, a piano, and a guitar. You can routinely find me with a sax reed in my pocket and a sewing pattern in my school folder. Often times there are little ends of threads stuck to my clothes. I use all natural products and refuse to drink soda or eat most candies. I do not buy dresses, I make them, and usually...

Fabric Lust.
I have a bad case of fabric lust. The target is textured summer fabrics. The main culprits are this blue striped seersucker:
and this green swiss dot:
I was turned onto these fabrics (specifically the seersucker) after reading Collette Patterns’ article on sewing with seersucker.

Prom for Dudes
So for prom, if you have a date, he has to get spiffed up as well. And presumably, he is the one doing the driving, and maybe even the paying.
You have to buy him a boutonnière. You could go the traditional flower route, and get a plain one that matches your dress, like these:
But wait, don’t you want an EXCITING boutonnière?
You could get an exotic flower as the central flower like...

House Party by 3OH!3. Question mark?
This weekend I am going to see Cobra Starship and 3OH!3, and while I’m mainly going for Cobra Starship (LOVE them!) I was listening to some 3OH!3 just for the heck of it and they have this one song, House Party, that amused me. BIG TIME. So now I’m going to tear it apart. I’m sure other people have as well….it’s kinda easy.
“I’m gonna have a house party...

Cardigans
I admit it. I am blindly in love. I failed to realize it until now. I love CARDIGANS.
They are adorable, and perfect to keep you warm and looking cute. I have six or so but I still want more of them! I especially like v-necked ones. CUTE.
These two are some nice ones from Modcloth:
Connect Five Cardigan, $34.99
Courtly Love Cardigan, $29.99

Prom - for the nonconformist.
So. Have you been to a dress store during this time of year lately? Chances are, you’ve seen a lot of this:
Or a lot of this:
Horrendous! Basically, you can either burn your retinas to blindness with a tacky print (floral is ESPECIALLY hot…and unfortunately, leopard print), or you can look like one of your sleeves was hacked off by a sleeve-thief on the way to your limo. Not to...

Renaissance Fair
So, I am going to a renaissance fair this month. I’ve never been to one and I think it’ll be fun.
According to the website there will be henna, jewelry, psychics (could be interesting!), Thai food, a may pole, etc. I’m going with my friend and we will both definitely be in costume! Basically I’m going to be wearing a smock dress with a stay.
Mine will certainly not be...

All That Jazz!
I love jazz. Big band jazz and late 40s, early 50s jazz is my favorite. In fact my favorite Broadway show is a jazz show - Chicago. Just listen to the Roxie Suite from said musical!
Music like that just makes me want to go down to a 20s speakeasy in a sparkly flapper and do the Charleston.
Some of the clothes worn in the movie are fantastic, as well.
Actually, the outfits in...

Creative Success!
I finished my recon of that flowery bridesmaid dress! It’s quite cute, though I unfortunately do not have a pic of my wearing it…yet. Soon enough I will. In the meantime, here it is on a hanger:
It came out a bit shorter than I’d originally planned (I tend to forget that I need to measure the skirt to cover my butt enough) but that’s okay, I can wear shorts with it....
