Better World Shopper →
This rates a ton of big companies based on social responsibility, environmental impact, etc.
I was surprised by a few things. Shopping at Target is significantly better than WalMart; Citibank is the worst bank for the planet; Pillsbury is actually quite responsible; and the best gas station to buy from is Sunoco (the worst include Exxon Mobil and Texaco).

Breakfast at Tiffany's
I finally got around to watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s which came recently in my Netflix. I am still mad at Holly Golightly (the main character) for putting her cat out in the rain. Even if she does go get him 5 minutes later. That is an unacceptable thing to do! Poor Cat.
Anyway, the point of this post: Breakfast at Tiffany’s is THE fashion film. OMG. So awesome. Of course there...

Ballroom Dance Competition!
I went to a competition today and had a lot of fun.
Team pictures! Unfortunately some of them are a bit dark because the sun was shining in the room pretty hard.
Tomorrow I have some pictures of some of the awesome dresses at the competition!

Fabric store liquidation sale...FTW!
A local (well, 40 minute drive) fabric store is moving its location and so they were having a liquidation sale…and I got the following, super cheap!
A really soft cotton “wool”. This will be a circle skirt!
Two pastel cotton prints which will be a surprise gift for someone!
A floral print for the dress I drafted…
A contrast for the pockets….
A set of...

Toad in my yard! :-)
There was a toad hiding in the woodpile at my house!
And there was also a frog trying to squeeze beneath a log (obviously unsuccessfully).

OMG. I made a bodice sloper.
So, I made my very own bodice sloper and have been drafting up a storm! Here’s a photo of it (before I cut it out):
For anyone who doesn’t know what this is, a bodice sloper is a basic pattern that can be used to draft any other pattern. Meaning, I can turn this sloper into whatever dress I want.
And the first dress I’m using it to draft is this one, from Modcloth (of...

Japan children's program!
For my Gold Award I am doing a series of multicultural children’s programs at the local library and I have some nice pictures from my Japan one yesterday! For the kids’ privacy I’ve blurred their faces out.
By the way, the brocade dress I’m wearing is one I made for a dance last year! I thought it would be appropriate since the topic is Japan.

Vivat Veritas
I came across a fantastic sewing blog called Vivat Veritas. The open back dresses are ah-maze-ing! I die! :-)
The best part is, many of them are based on Burdastyle patterns! It seems a lot of them are based on Danielle. Which means….I will be making an open back dress in the near (or distant) future! For now, into the inspiration file. Check out these Vivat Veritas inspired...

I drafted a bodice. WHAT NOW! :-D
My friend Izzy hired me to make her a homecoming dress with princess lines, a midriff section, and a full gathered skirt. The skirt of course does not need any drafting - just a long rectangle - but the bodice does and I unfortunately did not have a princess seamed bodice pattern to work from. So I drafted it straight from a normal, darted bodice pattern…and then drafted the midriff from...

Holly Golightly Dress
So I saw this pattern by the Selfish Seamstress and I knew I had to have one:
Because…it’s just like the dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s! (Except not floor-length.) The pattern can be downloaded here. I made mine in a black suiting. I think I am going to better learn how to make a lined dress because the insides look a little funky (I went and attached the front and back...

Owl Dress
I saw this dress on Burdastyle one day and knew I had to have one…
Except I didn’t want the ruffle sleeves, just normal sleeves. Speaking of sleeves, the dress I’m about to write about is the one I used in my cap sleeve tutorial! Cutest fabric evarrrr!
My friend Kathryn is modeling it. (She just so happens to be my last model Elizabeth’s twin sister!) I made the...

Strawberry Jam Dress
Perhaps this dress should be my signature dress (You know, Strawberry Pancakes/Strawberry Jam?). Anyway, it’s been done for a while but I haven’t gotten a chance until now to get pictures of my gorgeous friend and model Liz in it.
I used New Look 6699. I shortened the bodice a lot because it didn’t actually end at my waist, it ended right below my stomach and made me look like I...

School schedule
So I have an OK schedule. It would be better if every single class wasn’t completely overcrowded but…what can you do? Not much.
First I have Physics. The teacher seems cool. I have never been phenomenal at science but I think I’ll do alright.
Second, English. The teacher there is OK too. Although I forgot what a step down from AP that Honors is. Ah well.
Third…AP...

More Port Jeff photos
I thought I’d share some more Port Jefferson fabulousness.
Me on the boat. I had to hold my skirt down because it was so windy!
At the beachfront park.
Riding the (stone) dolphin.
A little tiny Port Jeff thingie set into the cement.
More of the decor at Tiger Lily Cafe.

Port Jefferson, LI
So I took a day trip to Port Jeff. There’s a lot of awesome stuff there. Some of the places we saw included…..
The old-time phone booth which is pretty rad.
The ginormous candy shop:
The Soap Box is, as the name suggests, a bath products store, and they have adorable displays.
There was a Masonic temple (ever since I read Da Vinci Code and Dan Brown’s other...
