Fried Plantains
This weekend I was visiting my boyfriend at his mom’s house, and his mom made us some fried plantains (also known, according to the boy, as amarillos). They were really good and so she sent me home with two plantains and told me how to fry plantains myself…. Here was the result: I basically used a method similar to the one described in this recipe, so if you want to make them,...

Burdastyle Faves 2/2011
Haven’t done a burdastyle post in a while! So here are my favorites of recent, after the jump… This shirtdress by Molly Molly Polkadot rain coat by smvphotography Hellagabrielle’s vintage-inspired bralette is so pretty. I want to learn to make bralettes. Amazing circle skirt with a corset-ish waist, from tanitisis: missjessica’s retro dress: ...

Colette's "Rooibos": Mission Complete!
I finally got photos of my Rooibos dress I made. I wore it to see a show and go out for dinner this weekend with my boyfriend’s family. I am very happy with the way it came out, and the pattern was perfect - I needed very little additional fitting. More photos after the jump… The photos above were taken at the theater, but I also have two additional ones I took at home (one in...

On Interracial Relationships.
So, last weekend, I was getting pizza with my boy, and we were talking to some of the people waiting for seating along with us. I was telling them about how my school’s roof was collapsing and so I hadn’t been in school for a few days because of it. Everytime Dan tried to say something, the other people seemed to ignore him. He thinks it’s because I’m a “nice sweet...

Discrimination Against Nonbelievers →
Today in English class someone actually went so far as to say that atheists are not discriminated against anymore in today’s society. They are certainly right about that in most New England liberal youth cultures, but in the real world, discrimination against nonbelievers is real. Nonbelievers are in fact the most openly discriminated against religious group in the United States.

Valentine's Day
I had a fabulous Valentine’s Day weekend.. I went to Maggie McFly’s with my friends on Friday, went out for (awesome and delicious) pizza with my boyfriend on Saturday, and went to a chocolate festival with my friend Jess on Sunday. Then my mom and dad took me out to a brunch buffet at a local Indian food restaurant that we go to quite often. I also wore a cute new dress on Saturday...

Sleepwear mania part II
Part two of my sleepwear sewing frenzy - everyone should look glamourous while they sleep! Here are the two other items Polly modeled for me - another slip, and a camisole. And a mini slip dress:

Sleepwear mania!!! :-)
I have recently made a metric ton of sleepwear so I had my gorgeous friend Polly come over and model it for me! Here are the first two things, a gold slip and a flannel robe. And the robe: More to come soon: another slip, a satin camisole, and a wrap dress!

Stashbusting Chronicles: Flannel Quilt
So…my fabric stash is quite large. Basically, it takes up an entire walk-in closet and part of the attic. It’s not necessarily always neat-n-tidy either. In particular my flannel stash has a tendency to grow, since there are only so many things you can really make with flannel (mostly pajama items). So I made this: I’m very happy with the way it turned out,...

On wearing pajamas in public.
At the risk of sounding judgemental or offending people, I offer my opinion: Pajamas are meant to be worn at home. I know, shocker! But really, pajamas are for sleeping and lounging. Not for wearing to the supermarket, not for wearing to school, and not for wearing to the local diner.  I’m talking to you, Ms. I’m-Wearing-Plaid-Flannels-With-Uggs. I know you think your pajamas are...

Owl Naturals Product Review
A week or so ago I was browsing Etsy looking for a good, reasonably priced body butter. I had decided to do away with the versions offered at mainstream stores like Bath and Body works because of the ingredients they contained, including parabens and petrolatums. I came across Owl Naturals’ shop, where a sample size body butter was offered for $2 plus shipping. I decided to order a lotion...

Just ordered some fabric...
I ordered two fabrics today from fabric.com. I got 1.5 yards of this pale blue charmeuse to make another “Cinnamon” slip: and 2.5 yards of this pretty seersucker to make some kind of sundress (but as I mentioned earlier, I’m forcing myself to wait till March to dig into my sundress fabrics!): Plus I’m currently working on my prom dress! It will probably be done WAY...

Floral Prints...
…they make me want spring to come! I just changed my blog theme (as you can see) and put this Cath Kidston print as my background: Now I’m browsing floral prints online, wishing it was summer so I could wear them. I really love summer and I REALLY love wearing pretty floral sundresses. So, for your viewing pleasure, here are some pretty floral-related things I’ve come...
