Away
I will be away on a mission trip for the next week - so no real posts! But I will be back next Saturday evening. I have some links and pictures lined up to post during the week, in case you were feeling a sense of dread at my absence.

So, since it’s summer I guess I’m just not in the mood for my usual snacks - hot tea, spaghetti and tofu-meatballs, etc. I’m sure everyone else is feeling the same way so here are some good summer suggestions.
Lately I’ve been eating delicious spinach salads. I put some spinach and raw chopped veggies in a bowl and top it off with some ranch. Then I eat it out on the porch.
Another good one is grilled tofu. I had some at a cookout the other day. It was marinated and then grilled, and served with grilled bell peppers.

Iced tea is good anytime, but especially when you bring it on a picnic or to the beach. I’ve been making peach and herb flavored tea, sweetened with honey. Just make sure you stir in the honey (or sugar) BEFORE you let the tea cool.
Yogurt is a good snack before bed, it’s nice and cold, but it’s also sweet. You could also use soy “yogurt” as well.

What do I eat for breakfast? Well, in the winter it’s a lot of buttered Portuguese Rolls, but when it’s hot I like granola. I particularly like Bear Naked granola - especially their Fruit and Nut, and their chocolate coated. Instead of regular milk (since I’ve been trying to drink less of that - read here about why), I use almond milk (I prefer it to soy milk because I have trouble finding unsweetened soymilk, and I prefer it to rice milk because that’s all white carbs!). Almond milk has a funny taste when it is drunk alone - not bad, just something to get used to - but in cereal (and baking and whatnot) it is just fine.
I’ve been eating a TON of local fruit and vegetables from a farm stand in town. Eating local is great because the quality and taste is so good, plus it’s great for the environment. Of course, you can only eat what’s in season near you, but I do cheat and buy unavailable stuff (like watermelons) at the supermarket, which is down the street from the farm stand. If you want to find local products near you, use this search engine.
Eating vegan is so much easier in the summer when I have time to do what I want! Less milk, more veggies. Also, drinking a lot of water is great, it’s cold and refreshing, and great for your body, not to mention it helps with a clear complexion.

Look at this adorable seersucker set that burdastyle member Kelsey Edwards made.

(by the way can you tell I’m practically obsessed with seersucker? I don’t know if I mentioned that I am making my baby twin cousins seersucker summer clothes for when they visit at the end of the month…but now you know!)
It was made from Simplicity 2905…

I may have to buy this pattern, mainly because it has overalls and I need an overall pattern for my little boy clothes! Not to mention the little onesies are absolutely adorbs.
Twas a gorgeous day for the beach. Yes it was. It was so hot and sunny, and the ocean water felt so nice.

A giant jellyfish we found!

I also got a nice shot of Kathryn modeling a dress for me:

Back in the day, people did not put their makeup on in the bathroom. It’s just not a good place to store makeup - it’s constantly getting humid and then dry again. People would apply their makeup at a vanity.

Now I wish I had one (or room to have one). There are some very pretty ones listed online:

bedbathandbeyond.com

amazon.com
The accessories are the best part though. Etsy has a plethora of them.
You’ll need a lipstick holder…

A brush and hand mirror set…

A vanity tray…

Some perfume bottles…

Powder jars…

…and a few other odds and ends.

Matching tissue box and hand mirror

Turquoise Jewelry Box

Embroidered hand towels
I also heard of a really cute idea, which was to collect vintage teacups and saucers to hold stuff in on a vanity. I actually do that in my bathroom - I have a matching cup and saucer; I store tools (i.e. nail clipper, applicators, tweezers, etc) in the cup and I use the saucer as a soap dish.
