What I Wore: July 4, 2012
I had a nice, laid-back Independence Day. Just went over to my boyfriend’s, played some pool, grilled some yummy food, and challenged his brother and brother’s girlfriend to a badminton match. It was relaxing. And I got all red-white-and-blue for the occasion. I enjoy being festive.

That’s also a new pair of shorts! I made them from Colette pattern’s shorts pattern, Iris. This is my second time using Iris. I am pretty thrilled with them, they’re very cute and comfy.
My First Knitted Item
I knitted something! It’s a scarf! It’s done! FINALLY!

It’s not perfect - it’s got a few issues here and there - but I am pretty proud of it for being my first knitting project! Now I am working on a blue and brown scarf for my boyfriend with two different knit stitches. I’ve already got like six inches of scarf!
New Swimsuit + First Beach Day!
I made a swimsuit out of this awesomely nautical looking striped fabric. I used Burdastyle’s free Alison pattern and heavily modified it to make it two-piece.
New skirt AND top! In one post!
Here are two things I’ve recently made, but only now gotten around to photographing - a pink top made from a floral cotton lawn, for which I used Colette Patterns’ “Sorbetto” pattern, which is a free pattern; and a yellow crepe circle skirt with lace trim.
Floral recycled sheet dress
I have had this sheet I picked up at a thrift shop sitting around for a few months now, and I was glad to finally use it. To make the dress, I used Simplicity 4070. I made it pretty much as is, with the addition of straps.

Blue top with dots and lace
I made this top based on Colette Patterns’ Sorbetto top pattern. I used a Swiss dotted shirting and a lace collar. I modified it to have an open back and a collar shaped to match the lace.

I wore it to see Radiohead live this week. The show was great. I’m not convinced that arenas are the best way to see live music, though. Either way, Radiohead was good as was their opener, Caribou.
Ice Cream Top
Modcloth’s “Cool With Me” top….

And my version!
Red high-waisted shorts
I made these bright red shorts from one of Colette Patterns’ new summer patterns, Iris! I love them and felt adorable walking around campus in them.

Quick photo of a kitchen hotpad set I made this weekend. I need to cook for myself this summer so I figured they’d come in handy, plus they’re super cute. I’ll get real photos of them soon.
