What I wore Wednesday, August 29 - a stretch half-circle skirt I made, belt, cami top, Saltwater sandals. It was pretty hot out.

Crown of Love (And By Love I Mean Flowers)

Modcloth, one of my favorite online stores, also happens to run a blog. From time to time, they publish DIY projects. When I saw this tutorial for a flower crown, I knew I HAD to try it out! I love hair accessories (especially ones appropriate for short hair) and flowers are my favorite type, hands-down. So I headed to JoAnn’s and bought the supplies (did you know that if you show a college ID in the month of July, JoAnn’s will give you 20% off?).

Modcloth’s version:

And here’s my version - a bit smaller, but in my opinion more wearable:

The only thing I did differently was to use some glue. My florist tape didn’t stick well, and so I used glue to affix the tape ends and to make sure that my flowers were extra secure. I have to secure the flower crown with bobby pins if I plan to wear it out and move around much. I really like the way it looks. Thanks Modcloth!

Long Weekend in Vermont

I had a lovely, lovely long weekend the past few days. I drove up to Vermont with a group of friends and stayed in one friend’s family cabin. It has been a relaxing weekend of swimming, reading, relaxing, and bonfires. The cabin was cozy, the weather was excellent, and the lake was refreshing to swim in.

We found this cat puzzle in one of the rooms and our host, Brian, told us that the puzzle was awful and impossible to complete, and that every year he would take it out thinking, “It wasn’t THAT bad!” and try it again. He always managed to finish it but not without great difficulty. So we took it out and tried it and it was, in fact, very difficult. All the pieces are either seafoam green, or cat hair!

We were also visited by an actual cat, a neighbor’s pet named Oliver:

Having a bit of a vacation was so refreshing! Now…back to working and classes. Boo!

What I Wore: July 4, 2012

I had a nice, laid-back Independence Day. Just went over to my boyfriend’s, played some pool, grilled some yummy food, and challenged his brother and brother’s girlfriend to a badminton match. It was relaxing. And I got all red-white-and-blue for the occasion. I enjoy being festive.

That’s also a new pair of shorts! I made them from Colette pattern’s shorts pattern, Iris. This is my second time using Iris. I am pretty thrilled with them, they’re very cute and comfy.

My Summer Sangria

I made this sangria for a family cookout this weekend.

I just combined the following ingredients: 1 bottle chardonnay, 1 cup peach schnapps, 3 peaches (diced), 1 bag frozen raspberries, 1 bottle club soda, and 1/2-3/4 cup lemonade concentrate. Then I put ice in it to keep it cold. Try it, it was delicious!

What I wore Friday, June 29 - 1947 repro dress and Aerosoles wedge heels. I wore this to a burlesque show!
